Child Health Day Activities
October 1st is Child Health Day. Help your child to understand the importance of healthy practices with a few fun-filled activities. These ideas all focus on a healthy lifestyle, showing your child why it’s important to eat right, get enough exercise and so much more!
Trace your child’s body onto a large sheet of butcher paper. Now your child has their own outline to fill in. Using books and photos that you find online, have your child draw what’s inside the body on the paper. This should include interior body parts/systems, such as the skeleton, lungs, heart, brain and muscles. Add an extra layer to this art activity and have your child use different colors or materials (such as paint, markers, crayons, paper collage, fabric collage) for each body system.
What does your child eat in a day? Have them keep a log of every meal and snack. Go back to the log and rate each food choice (in terms of nutritional value). Have your child make suggestions for ways to improve their daily diet. This might mean swapping out the after-dinner cookie for an apple and grapes or substituting plain water for their chocolate milk.
Get up, out and active with a few pint-sized physical activities. Set up an obstacle course in your backyard, hold a parents vs. kids kickball game, go for a family walk, hike in the woods or get active with an indoor dance party.
