Earth Day Activity Ideas for Families
How do you plan on celebrating Earth Day? If you’re looking for family-friendly ideas to try at home this year, check out these fun-filled kids’ holiday activities.
Plant a Garden
Even though the warm weather isn’t necessarily here to stay, you can start your summer garden during a spring-time Earth Day celebration. If you live in an area that may still see frost, begin gardening indoors. Choose a few different veggies to grow and start seedlings in reused paper milk containers. Simple cut the containers in half, fill the bottom with soil and sow the seeds!
Recyclable Scavenger Hunt
Search your home for items to recycle. Give each kiddo a list of items or ask them to create their own. Look for items to categorize into different types of recyclables, such as paper products, glass, and plastics. Have your family bring the items to one central location and separate them. Take everything to your local recycling facilities or leave them out for recyclable pick-up.
You don’t have to bring every paper, glass, or plastic item to the town’s recycling facility. Keep some items at home to reuse and upcycle. Transform old plastic yogurt containers into planter pots, use paper scraps to craft a collage, or decorate an old cardboard box and turn it into a make-believe airplane for the kids to play with!
