Kids’ Activities for World Environment Day
June 5th marks World Environment Day. This holiday provides the perfect opportunity to help your young child learn about the planet and what their role is in helping it. How can you teach your child about being green? Check out these easy environmental activity ideas for kids!
Upcycle and Reuse for Art
Your crafty kiddo enjoys making art 24-7. But the amount of paper they use on a daily basis makes you feel uncomfortable—in an eco-conscious way. Instead of buying new packages of paper, use what you already have at home. Search the house for older worksheets, flyers or other sources of paper. Another option is to cut apart old cardboard boxes and use the pieces as canvases for painting or drawing.
What does shopping have the do with environment? Instead of adding to the problem by throwing away plastic water bottles, baggies and other similar containers, shop for permanent solutions. Buy each family member a reusable water bottle and swap out their lunch-time plastic baggies with washable, sealable containers.
Help Clean Up
Find a local clean-up activity. This may include a community park, school or other similar place. Your child (along with the rest of the family) can remove trash and help to recycle it. Take this activity a step further and look for a clean-up/planting event. Your child can take the trash away and then green the outdoor space by helping to plant a garden.
