Direct from the library of the late Hugh Selbourne MD (1906-1973) a noted book collector and diarist.
Written by one of the most prolific and successfulchildren's writers of the early nineteenthcentury, Elizabeth Sandham. She wrote works such as The Twin Sisters and The Orphan and The Adopted Daughter.
With three illustrated plates, complete.
Bound with half titles and publisher's advertisementsto the rear.
This is the fourth edition of an incredibly scarcetext, with only two of this edition on Copac and the 1812 and 1816 editions only held by the British library.
In a quarter calf binding with paper covered boards. Externally, rubbed, particularly to the spine. Small losses to head and tail of spine. Front hinge is slightly strained but firm. Poem by J.B Pasted to rear pastedown 'I love them that love me'. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age toned with instances of spotting and light foxing throughout. The plates have offset in places. Overall: GOOD.
