High Holy Days Recipes

Applesauce Cake

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup heavy oil (such as Wesson)
  • 2 T cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • 1-1/3 cups thick applesauce (about a can)
  • 3-1/2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup light raisins (optional)
Instructions:

  1. Hand mix ingredients
  2. Place batter in greased angel food pan (heavyweight)
  3. bake one hour at 350oF until tooth- pick comes out dry
