Weekend Special Low Price 1776 Declaration Of Independence Early Printing In Uk :
FIRST OFFER OF $9895 FOR DECLARATION AND THIS CONSTITUTION PRINTING I WILL ACCEPT. WHO WILL UNDERSTAND WHAT A GREAT BUY THIS IS AND BUY THEM IN SAME BINDING AND EDITION EARLIEST PRINTING OF BOTH IN THIS FORMAT IN ENGLAND O
HERE i have posted one of the earliest printings of the US Declaration of Independence dispatched to England from New York to print in August, 1776 for the King, his Court, the government and members of the parliament to read for the first time the entire text.
Sent over by Thomas Jefferson, the 21 and half year old Founding Father under instructions from his 54 colleagues to inform the Crown and masters their intention to sever ties from the Mother Country in a manner totally insolent and laughable to many who first read it. This text is squeezed between articles from other foreign venues reporting back their news too.
Every time I use this text to teach my students I find their level of learning and interest rising stratospherically actually engaged in old fashioned print and not screens on phones or electronic tablets for once when it dawns on them their are looking at the actual text on ancient paper in printing where fs are really s's their Founding Fathers actual words of separation from the greatest military power known to humankind.
Even in my great old age I feel the same way when just holding this volume and its companion of the same series of Gentleman's Magazine of 1787 containing a very earliest of printings in the UK of our Constitution dispatched in packet ship one month after its ratification by the Convention's President, General George Washington to who the same king and his minions what a rule making constitution actually looks like since the Brits never bothered to write one after they accepted their Magna Carta a millennia ago.
(I am offering here also this companion volume in the same binding separately to be bought unless a wise buyer tells me they want both which I will reprice to take that into account in a better price for the two!)
This volume holds remarkable maps of Long Island, Southern New York, which was beautifully hand colored when printed, a map of the city of Philadelphia, the North and South Pole and a remarkable early projection map of North and South America all of which taken together are worth the same together as my price for the volume including the iconic printing of our precious Declaration of Independence.
This volume, for years ignored, is now valuable and considered a fine investment along with its pure deep American historical value forever only increasing in value as so many are lost, destroyed in flood and fire or abuse etc.
This copy is in particularly good condition, its board being original and the spine restored so very well and reguilded too.
There are those collectors who want these volumes first and foremost for the illustrations which are highly collectable with NO interest at all for the early printing of our founding documents. Me, as a teacher first and foremost and lover of our Republic cannot stand that point of view but that's what makes our country great eh?
The price I have set for this volume is based upon an averaging where one for sale now is priced at $20,000 and will sell sooner than later and others which are missing all maps and illustrations and is disbound in very poor condition selling for $4500 and sells in that condition over and over with little problem.
While it's against my constitution to accept a return on this volume so as not to play roulette daring to tempt fate given the nature of our systems of shipping and get that horrid call that its lost or damaged or ???
I will accept a return only WITHIN seven days of having received it from me so I can relist with speed and sell to a worthy successor steward of this very special volume as I am trying to downsize not spend precious time at the Post Office become a round robin shipper instead. i hope you can understand my feelings.
Finally, I will always accept a THOUGHTFUL offer and will give a thoughtful response.
If you are a collector you know how to do this. If you are young or a wannabe of any age and pass it buy as I did when i first started out, all I can relate is that I have forever regretted my silliness in doing so and that's not a good feeling harboring such losses till no after over six decades of collecting.
This is a great gift to an alma mater and better if its both volumes (the very early printing of the Constitution too) which can be deducted at actual prevailing retail value too)
Or as a gift for a VERY GOOD FRIEND!
Or to give yourself a wonderful present ot show your grandkids and take it to school as I have done over and for show and tell to oooohhhhh and ahhhhhssss from teachers and students.
But my teaching from it at all levels is the most satisfying payoff for sure.
Good luck. I want to find a committed new steward to take over from me for many decades yet to NOTE THAT I AM OFFERING THE OTHER 11 VOLUMES OF THIS MATCHED BINDING SET OF GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE FROM 1774-1786 1776 AND 1787 ARE BEING OFFERED SEPARATELY
