UP FOR sale IS QUITE POSSIBLY AMONG THE RAREST DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. LETTERS EVER TO BE PLACED UP FOR sale. IT IS A JUNE, 1965 LETTER TYPED AND SIGNED BY DR. KING. IT'S CONTENT IS POSITIVELY MIND BLOWING. IT WAS WRITTEN TO ONE OF HIS SCLCBENEFACTORS MRS. LYNN C. FOSTER, OF MIDLAND TEXAS. IN THIS HISTORIC LETTER, DR. KING DISCUSSES THE STRUGGLE FOR AS HE SAYS "NEGRO FREEDOM AND INDEPENDENCE", AND ALL THE EVENTS AND LEGISLATURE CONCERNING THE EVENTS IN SELMA,1965.. AS YOU KNOW, Selma to Montgomery marches in 1965 were part of the voting rights movement underway in Selma, Alabama. By highlighting racial injustice in the South, they contributed to passage that year of the Voting Rights Act, a landmark federal achievement of the Civil Rights Movement. Activists publicized the three protest marchesto walk the 54-mile highway from Selmato the Alabama state capital of Montgomeryas showing the desire of African Americancitizens to exercise their constitutional right to vote, in defiance of segregationist repression.. IN THIS LETTER DR.KING DISCUSSES SELMA INMUCH DETAIL"THE VICTORY IN SELMA IS NOW BEING WRITTEN IN CONGRESS". "BEFORE LONG, A MILLION NEGROES WILL BE NEW VOTERS, IN PRACTICE-NEW CITIZENS, AND PSYCHOLOGICALLY NEW PEOPLE." HE GOES ONTO SAY SELMA IS A SHINING MOMENT IN THE CONSCIENCE OF MAN". HE GOES ONTO PRAISECIVIL RIGHTS HERO'S LIKE MRS. VIOLA LIUZZO (SHOT DEAD DURING THE SELMA MARCH BY THE KU KLUX KLAN), REV. JAMES REEB (While participating in the Selma Voting Rights Movementactions in Selma, Alabama, in 1965, he was murdered by white segregationists, dying of head injuries in the hospital two days after being severely beaten) AND MR. JAMES LEE JACKSON (On February 18, 1965, while participating in a peaceful voting rights march in his city, he was beaten by troopers and shot by Alabama State TrooperJames Board Fowler. Jackson was unarmed and died eight days later in the hospital.) DR.
