All in overall fine condition. DIEGO RIVERA (1886-1957) was a Mexican painter and muralist whose imagery reflected his politically radicalism and anti-clericalism. (He was expelled from the Mexican Communist Party, and Soviet exile Leon Trotsky lived in his home for a time. Rivera, a notorious womanizer, had two tempestuous marriages to fellow artist Frida Kahlo (1929-1939, 1940-1954). He was commissioned to make several large-scale murals in the US, causing a furor with their left-wing imagery. (His "Man at the Crossroads" in Rockefeller Center was destroyed after viewers complained that it included a heroic image of Lenin.) PAULETTE GODDARD (1910-1990), a child model and Ziegfeld girl, was a major star at Paramount in the 1940s. She won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in So Proudly We Hail (1943). Her marriages included actors Charlie Chaplin and Burgess Meredith, and German author Erich Maria Remarque. There remains uncertainty about whether Goddard and Chaplin were legally married, but her appearances in his films (Modern Times, 1936; The Great Dictator (1940) certainly boosted her career.
