Great 1864 ABRAHAM LINCOLN Emancipation Proclamation Mounted Albumen PHOTOGRAPH (Note: additional images are located below the description) Abraham Lincoln: Emancipation Proclamation Mounted Albumen dated 1864.
This is a 13 by 18 1/2 inch albumen photograph affixed to a larger 21 by 27 inch mount. It is a photograph of a calligraphy "Done entirely with Steel Pens and Ordinary Writing Ink, by J. E. Paine, Brooklyn, N.Y." depicting Abraham Lincoln, a Union soldier, Flag, cannon, Liberty tree inscribed 1620/1776/1863, and text of the Emancipation Proclamation.

The subtitle reads: "Original Given to the Brooklyn Sanitary Fair, Feb. 22, 1864, and By a Subscription of $500 Bought of the Fair and Presented to Abraham Lincoln, President of the U.S."

The photograph is by M. Stadfeld and was published by Joseph Paine in New York in 1864, possibly during the presidential campaign.

Of the many souvenir printings of the Emancipation Proclamation, this is perhaps the finest and definitely produced during the Lincoln presidency. Interestingly, it depicts a beardless Lincoln and fails to include any of the African Americans supposedly made free by his proclamation, perhaps an intentional omission, given its place of publication. Some light dirtiness to the mount, both front and back, with a crack to an upper corner of the mount. The albumen itself is in great condition.

Note: another of this identical item sold at sale nine years ago for $2150.

Note: The blurriness you see in the images is caused from the lighting and glossy surface of this item.
