This engraving of civil war commanders from 1867 is a grouping of small portraits, engraver unknown. The engraving depicts Union General John Sedgwick in the center, surrounded by Union commanders Sumner, Wadsworth, McPherson, Kearney, Lyon, Mitchell, Reno, Reynolds, and Birney. Besides being a beloved General of the Union, Sedgwick's name is usually at the top of the list for Most Famous Last Words: "They couldn't hit an elephant at this distance." Patriotic bunting across the bottom, w/ a bugle and drum. An American Flag is draped across the top.
Verso has been left blank. This folded, tipped in print still has remnants of a sewn edge from being in the book, "The Blue Coats, And How They Lived, Fought and Died For The Union", from 1867. Has a few creases on opposite end of tipped edge, and some light ghosting of image from being folded, otherwise very nice condition for age. Ships in acid free, archival quality sleeve w/ acid free, archival quality backer board. Print measures approx. 7-3/4" x 9".
