Imagine yourself in this fabulous coat on New Year's Eve!! It's only weeks away ...
This exquisite Jeanne Lanvin Castillo 1950s couture vintage coat is indeed a rare find with wow factor! The radiant Persian blue brocade with black flower motif of this A-line treasure simply emanates Parisian chic. The large three-button closure, three-quarter sleeves and deep front slot invisible pockets reveal impeccable attention to design detail combined with hand-finishing seamstress mastery - hallmarks of the cocktail and evening high fashion coats of the era and of Lanvin, the oldest couture house of France (1889).
I personally acquired this coat in Seattle, WA in the late 1970s. I currently live in Philadelphia, PA, USA. The coat has been infrequently and gently worn within the past 40 or so years. It is an extremely well-preserved, nearly pristine, garment seeking its new gal! Some details:Excellent to pristine condition. (Coat has not been recently cleaned. There is a very faint facial make-up partial line at collar crease. There are two small lining seam gaps 1-1in/2.5cm and another 1-4in/10cm at the inside front lining - see pics)Coat is A-line, with a collar, has a three button closure (all original) with three-quarter sleeves.Coat is of light coat-weight brocade of black flowers on a radiant Persian blue (coat-weight silk?) background.Fully lined jacket/coat.Three original large buttons. Two invisible front slot pockets .Original designer label and couture under-label seamstress tape with the alpha-numeric sequence "64567 W" intact.Size approximation (not tagged in coat) M 8-10 US, 12-14 UK (?)40in/102cm long from shoulder top to hemline48in/122cm around at bust line (A-line coat)12in/30.5cm inside sleeve length16in/40.5cm outside sleeve length
Attached are 12 pictures detailing the above.
A little history - Following the death of Jeanne Lanvin in 1946, Antonio del Castillo (Madrid, Spain) was hired as head designer of the fashion house in 1950, relaunching the brand under the direction of Lanvin's daughter, Marie-Blanche de Polignac, until his departure in 1962. Castillo, originally a costume designer, became known for his elegant clothes, rich fabrics and slender lines. Previous to his post at Lanvin, Castillo worked with Elizabeth Arden, at the New York Metropolitan Opera Company and, was considered one of the most promising designers of the time in Paris alongside Christian Dior, Pierre Balmain and Cristobal Balenciaga.
Now it's your turn to own and wear (perhaps even buy and donate to a collection or musem) this exquisite coat from the iconic couture house of Lanvin!
