Judaica , 15th Century ( 1449 ) Passover Seder Plate , Amazing :
$1,500,000

UNBELIEVABLE !!!

THE OLDEST Passover SEDER PLATE KNOWN !!!

568 YEARS OLD !!!

ON THEISRAELMUSEUM COLLECTION THERE IS AN Passover HAGGADAH , CALLED

THEFIRST NUREMBERG HAGGADAH , DATED 1449 .

THIS HAGGADAHWAS WRITTEN AND ILLUSTRATED BYTHE WELL KNOWN 15TH CENTURY

JEWISHSCRIBERYOEL BENSIMEON .

YOEL BEN SIMOEN ( from the jewish virtual library ) :

Joel ben simeon ( called feibush Ashkenazi ) , scribe and illuminator active in Germany and Italy in the second half of the 15th century . of german origin probably from cologne or bonn , he established a workshop in northen Italy . in his signed manuscripts he referred to himself as a sofer ( scribe ) , lavlar ( scrivener ) and a zayyar ( painter ) . probably he himself was not the copyist and illuminator of all the manuscripts signed by him , but he was head of atelier which moved from town to town , with several craftsmen in his service . in style and iconography his workshop combined Ashkenazi and Italian art .

ON ONE OF THE HAGGADAH PAGES THERE IS AN ILLUSTRATION.

( SEE PICTURE 2 ).

THIS HAGGADAH WAS ORDERED FROM YOEL BEN SIMEON BY NATAN BEN SHLOMO .

MOST LIKELY , AND IT IS MORE THAN REASONABLETHAT NATAN BEN SHLOMO ORDERED

THE PLATE AS WELL FROM YOELBEN SIMEON .

AT THAT TIME ONLY WEALTHY PEOPLE COULD AFFORD THEMSELVES TO ORDER

A PRIVATE ILLUSTRATED HAGGADAH , AND IF NATAN BEN SHLOMO ORDERED IT FROM

YOEL BEN SIMEON THAT MEANS THAT YOEL BEN SIMEON WAS ALREADY KNOWN AS

AN ARTIST AND A CRAFTSMAN .

MOST LIKELY THAT YOEL BEN SIMEONWAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PRODUCTION OF

THE PLATE . PROBABLY HE HANDED THE WORK TO ANOTHER CRAFTSMANUNDER HIS

SUPERVISION .

LET US NOT FORGET THAT IT IS WELL KNOWN THAT EVEN SOME OF YOEL BEN SIMEON

SIGNEDMANUSCRIPTS , AS WELL AS THOSE ATTRIBUTED TO HIM , WERE MADE IN

COOPERATION WITH OTHER ARTISTS .

OF COURSE IT MIGHT BE THAT NATAN BEN SHLOMO ORDERED THE PLATE BY HIMSELF

FROM ANOTHER CRAFTSMAN AFTER THE HAGGADAH WAS READY .

ONE THING IS ABSOLUTELY CLEAR !!! NATAN BEN SHLOMO WAS THE OWNER OF THIS

PLATE . HE OEDRED THE HAGGADAH SO HE ORDERED THE PLATE AS WELL .

THE HAGGADAH CONTAINS ONLY 3 PAGES !!! MOST OF THE PAGES ARE MISSING / WERE LOST ,

( SO I WAS TOLD BY A SENIOR CURATOR AT THE ISRAEL MUSEUM )AND EVEN SO IT WAS SOLD

BY SOTHEBY'S ISRAELFOR1,017,750 $ !!! ANDTHE BUYERDONATEDIT TO THE ISRAEL

MUSEUM IN JERUSALEM .

THIS PLATEIS THE OLDEST Passover SEDER PLATE KNOWN , BUT THERE ISANOTHER

GREAT AND EXTREMELY IMPORTANTSTORYBEHIND OFIT .

THE PLATEWASOWNED BY A JEWISH FAMILY THATON THE 17TH CENTURY ( AROUND 1666 )

WERE PROBABLYADHERENTS( believers ) OF THE FALSE MESSIAHSHABTAI TZVI,

BUTWHENSHABTAI TZVI CONVERTED TOISLAMTHEY HAVE DONE WHATALL THE

SHABTAI TZVI .THERFORE WE CAN SEE THAT THE DEER ON THE PLATE WAS COVERED

( DEER = TZVI =צבי ).

IMPORTANT FACT :

THE DEER'S BODY WAS COVERED VERY CAREFULLY WITHOUT DAMAGING THE DOG AND

THE FLOWER ABOVE THE DEER'S HEAD .

NOTE THAT THE DEER WAS COMPLETELYCOVERED ALSO FROM THE BACK SIDE , WHICH

MEANS THAT THE PURPOSE WAS THAT THE DEER WILL NOT BE SEEN AT ALL , EVEN

FROM THEBACK SIDE ( SEE PICTURE 7 ) .

THE WELL KNOWN , ONE OF THE BIGGEST JUDAICA COLLECTORSIN THE WORLD

MR. YITZHAK EINHORN, ONHIS COMPREHENSIVE ARTICLE , 3 SABBATEANPLATES , THAT

WAS WRITTEN IN HEBREW AND WAS PUBLISHED ON THE MAGAZINE " ARTICLE " ( מאמרים ) ,

DESCRIBED AND EXPLAINEDTHE ISSUE VERY WELL , INCLUDES PHOTOS .

YOU CAN READ THE ARTICLE IN HEBREW ON THAT LINK :

A GREAT PIECE OF HISTORY !!!

THE PLATE IS 22 C"M IN DIAMETER, MADE OUT OF PEWTER AND IT IS ALL HAND MADE!!!

HAND ENGRAVING NOT PROMINENCE BY USING DIE OR CAST PATTERN .

ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE PLATE THERE IS A HALLMARK OF A WOMANWITH A SHAWL

OVERHERHEAD ( PICTURE6 ) .THIS IS THE WELL KNOWN SYMBOL OF FORTUNA ON THE

GLOBE ( FOTUNA AUF EINER KUGEL - IN GERMAN )WHICH WASHEAVILY USEDAT THAT

TIME IN THE ART ( SEE PICTURES 11 AND 12 ) .

THIS HALLMARK IS THE ULTIMATE PROOF THAT THISPLATEWAS PRODUCED

AT THESAME TIME WITH THE HAGGADAH , MEANING , AROUNDTHE YEAR 1449 !!!

1.THIS HALLMARK DOESN'T APPEAR ON ERWIN HINTZE CATALOG !!!

HALLMARKSSTARTING FROM 1500 !!! . THERE ARE SOME HALLMARKS ON

THAT CATALOGWHICH LOOKSSIMILAR TO THE HALLMARK THAT IS ON

THE PLATE ,BUT NONE OF THEM IS NOTIDENTICAL ASREQUIRED !!!

NOT EVEN CLOSE !!!

2. ON THE ROTHSCHILD'S HAGGADAH FROM1450 , WHICH WAS

ILLUSTRATED BYTHE SAME SCRIBER , YOEL BEN SIMEON ,

AND WHICH IS ON THE COLLECTIONOF THE NATIONAL LIBRARY IN

JERUSALEM , THERE IS AN ILLUSTRATION WHICH ISSIMILAR TO

THE HALLMARK THAT IS ON THE PLATE !!!! ( SEE PICTURE 10 ) .

THERE ARE MORE THAN 10 ANTIQUE Passover HAGGADOT IN MUSEUMS AND ON

PRIVATE COLLECTIONS ( FROM THE 12TH CENTURY UPTO THE 16TH CENTURY ) .

HOW MANY Passover SEDER PLATES FROM THAT PERIOD OF TIME EXIST ???

ONLY 1 !!! MY PLATE !

ON THE ISRAEL MUSEUM COLLECTION THERE IS AN Passover PLATE WHICH IS DATED

BY THEM TO 1480 .

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY ERRONEOUS !!!

WHAT THEY HAVE IS AN HISPANO MORESQUE POTTERY PLATE FROM THE LATE 16TH CENTURY

UP TO THE 18TH CENTURY . THE MUSEUM'S EXPERTS EXPLAINS THE ERRORS IN THE HEBREW

INSCRIPTION BY SAYING THAT IT MAY BE A RESULT OF ITS HAVING BEEN COPIED BY A NON

JEWISH ARTIST WHO WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH HEBREW LETTERS .

YOU CAN SEE THE PLATE ON THE LINK class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: large; font-family: Arial; unicode-offeri: embed; direction: ltr;" dir="LTR">WHAT A POOR AND SHAMEFUL EXPLANATION !

WHEN SOMEONE COPIES LETTERS HE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE FAMILIAR WITH THE LETTERS

OR WITH THE LANGUAGE ! .

AND IF THE ARTIST WAS NOT JEWISH , HOW COME HE KNEW TO USE A LETTER WHICH

SOUNDSTHE SAME ( ע INSTEAD OFה ) ON THE WORD מצע .

THE WORD מצע WAS WRITTEN IN YIDDISH SPELLING \ ACCENT !!!

NORMALLY מצה\ MATZAH IS WRITTEN IN YIDDISH מאצע .

APPARENTLYTHE ARTIST OR THE PERSONWHOORDERED THE WORK WERE YIDDISH

SPEAKERS , THEREFORE THEY USED THE LETTER ע INSTEAD OF USING THE LETTER ה .

THE JEWISH IN SPAIN DIDN'T SPEAK YIDDISH !!!

IT'S ABSOLUTELY CLEARTHAT SOMEONE TOOK AN OLD SPANISH PLATE AND ADDED THE

INSCRIPTION IN A LATER TIME ,LONG TIME AFTER THE EXPULSION FROM SPAIN . MOST

LIKELY THAT IT WAS DONE INTHE 18TH OR 19TH CENTURY .

SIMILAR PLATES FROM THE 16TH AND 18TH CENTURIES YOU CAN SEE ON THE LINKSBELOW .

AMAZING DISCOVERY !!!
