Challah Sandwich Ideas for Rosh Hashanah
Your family baked their favorite challah bread recipe in celebration of Rosh Hashanah. Keep the Jewish New Year’s fun going with a few easy-to-make challah sandwich ideas. These are perfect for your kids’ lunches, an impromptu holiday gathering or an outdoor picnic adventure (provided the fall weather cooperates).
Apples and Honey
Apples and honey are a holiday staple for the Jewish New Year. Combine this sweet selection with your freshly-baked challah and make a completely kid-friendly sandwich. Remove the skins from the apples and slice them. If your young child doesn’t enjoy the crunch of an apple slice (or you have concerns about a choking hazard), use apple butter instead. Line the first layer of challah with the apples/apple butter and add a drizzle of honey. Top the honey with another piece of challah.
Slice and grill your child’s favorite veggies, such as zucchini, squash, green/red peppers, onions or eggplant. Place the grilled veggies on toasted challah and top with dressing or cheese.
Instead of white bread, use thick slices of challah to make gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches. Combine several different types of cheese or top the grilled sandwich with another layer of melted dairy delight.
