This holiday has ancient roots in pagan religions and today has political overtones as well; Worker's Day is commemorated on May Day in 140 countries around the world.
Cinco de Mayo (Mexico)
Celebrated: May 05
Commemorating the Mexican Battle of the Puebla, AKA the 5 de Mayo, which is often erroneously equated with Mexican Independence. The holiday is interestingly more popular today in American than in Mexico. Local celebrations include dances and other cultural performances.
Mother's Day (US)
Celebrated: 2nd Sunday in May
A day to not only honor your Mother, but all women who have acted as a mother figure in your life - whether as Stepmothers, Aunts, Grandmothers, or "Big Sister."
