Although September is the 9th month of the Gregorian calendar, it was the 7th month of the Roman calendar, during the time that the month was given its name.

While blue is the most popular and common color of the sapphire, the stone can actually come in nearly all colors except for red. Sapphires are mined in Sri Lanka, India, Brazil and China, among other places. The only stone harder than a sapphire is the diamond.

Did you know that those of you with September birthdays share your special month with actors Michael Douglas, Hugh Grant and Adam Sandler, all born on September 9th?
