Description

Here is anice19th centuryBritishnaval boardingaxein good originalcondition. The nicely shapediron headhas dark surface areasfrom genuine age with the makers name M.Wooton. On one side of the bladeit has a broad arrow mark with the letters 'W.D.' which stands for 'war department' and a letter 'N' for Navy. The original shaped woodenhandle has anice dark surfacepatina which can be seen in the photos. The iron head is secured onto the handle withtwo iron langet strapswhich also protect the neck area of the handle. In total measuring 15 inches long. The head measures 6.3 inches wide with a2.3 inch longblade. Provenance - Portsmouth from a collection. The head has a typical 'tomahawk' shape which British naval axes typically hadin the 1800's.
