A Fabulous Pair Of Early Porcelain Figural Cherub Candlesticks Chelsea / Samson:
A fabulous pair of 18th Century candlesticks with the gold anchor Chelsea mark on the reverse of each. The candlesticks have flower head sconces each one formed as a cherub and each holding baskets of flowers under their arms, each has surrounding bocage and is raised on an exquisite rococo scroll base.
These candlesticks were made in the 18th century (latter part of 18th century I believe likely to be 1760-1790) likely to be Chelsea's gold anchor period. Similar examples were produced by the great Paris imitator, Edme Samson, whose pieces have become celebrated and collected in their own right. Samson's early 19th century workshop created many copies of 18th century British porcelain as well as Meissen, Sevres, and Chinese Exports.
The height of these superb candlesticks is 18cm.
