Up for sale is a Very Rare & Large 16thc Chinese Longquan Celadon Glazed Tripod Censer Vase. The Censer is by far one of the most Impressive period examples I have seen. The Censer dates conservatively to the 16th Century period, if not possibly even earlier. The Censer has a great period design with carved lotus all around, and figural carved tripod feet. The Censer also came from the estate with this specially carved wood display base, and lid which were most likely carved in the 18th or 19th century for the Censer. The Lid is superbly carved and pierced with a rich old patina. The Lid also has a very finely carved white jade phoenix bird within bamboo figural top finial. I was actually told the white jade finial could be worth as much or even more than the censer itself! The Censer could use a cleaning and shows its early age with wear and crazing throughout the glaze. There is a crack underneath at the base as you can see which does not go through to the interior so I believe it to be an original kiln or age flaw. I am sure and Legitimate example of this very early age would have some condition issues. In my opinion for its age the Censer is in very fine untouched original condition with no other cracks, chips, and no restorations. The wood base and lid also show wear, but are overall in good condition with no missing pieces of repairs. The jade finial could use a cleaning, but is in very fine original condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. The Censer is one of the Largest size examples I have seen and is a Very Impressive and Powerful display piece measuring 11 1/4 inches wide, by 5 inches tall by itself, 12 3/4 and inches tall including the stand lid and jade finial. The Jade Finial itself measures 2 1/4 inches wide, by 2 3/4 inches tall. Such examples are getting very hard to come by, mostly with stand and lid like this piece. I have heard at the higher end sales Ming Longquan Celadon pieces have been Substantially increasing in value and commonly realizing record prices, so I am quite positive this Censer is also a very fine investment piece. A Truly Amazing Museum Quality example.
