Antique 1800\'s Early NORTON & FENTON, East Bennington, VT Stoneware Ovoid Jug
- Here is a very interesting and early example of Norton & Fenton stoneware jug, marked in relief in blue under the spout
- This is the mark of Julius Norton and his brother-in-law, Christopher Fenton, who ran the Norton family pottery from 1844-1847 when the last left the partnership.*
- The ovoid form shows that this jug was made early in the partnership, because Fenton decided to move forward the company by trying to produce straight-sided jugs*
- * Reference: William Ketchum, Jr., American Stoneware, p. 42
- Condition: Good overall; Just a 1\" long shallow flake on the side of the handle and a shallow round imperfection on the body, which occurred during the manufacturing process due to clay impurities. Please, see photos below!
