For sale today is a very nicely restoredflat topantiquetrunk with embossedtinand the restoration turned out very well.The embossed tin pattern isa fine wire meshpattern -see pictures.Idid not find any patentdates on the trunk and based on 40 plus years restoring trunks I would date this trunk to the 1880\'s to 1890\'s which makes this awesome oldtrunk a 110 to 130 years old - a true antique.
This trunk was structurally sound when the restoration started and the metalbottom is in good solid condition, has hadmultiple coats ofclearapplied and has the three original bottom slats.The trunkhas thethree original hinges which are heavy duty, fancy, tight, work well and the lid closes well. There are19pieces of originalpolished hardware and has the original center lock - no key. Thetwo originalmechanical latchesare HD fancy, tight, one workswell and the other does not work.The lid lifters are built into the latchesthe lid stay is new. There are 12 solid oak slats in a golden oak color on the trunk.The metal/tin isin verygood condition. The trunk has the four originalmetalwheels on the bottom and the trunk rolls easily.Two new black leather handles were installed with the original end caps.Two new black leather belts were installed on the trunk. The tray is long gone and the interior has been removed.
