Bells extend through wider strip of leather and then anchored with smaller strip extending through bell.
Additional info:The leather is still in good condition and soft and pliable. The part with the bells is made of a much thicker leather with an additional inner strap that is slightly shorter, giving a gentle bend to the thicker outer piece. This makes it somewhat difficult to measure exactly but I would say is about 15\" in length and 1 1/2\" wide. The flat extension of the bells pierce through this and are held in place with the thinner inner strap that laces through them and is riveted to the outer wider strap. The outer end straps meet this heavier piece with the bells perpendicularly and are approx. 15\" long. The buckles are good and everything is held together with rivets(not sure of the term) that are probably brass. The leather is a very dark brown. I have oiled it well with Neatsfoot to prevent deterioration. The bells have a really beautiful tone.
