Antique Vtg Alpha Farnell King Charles Spaniel Dog Toy 1912, Pal For You Bear :
A wonderful early King Charles Spaniel toy made by Alpha Farnell. When I first brought this little chap home I contacted an expert as I wondered if he may be a Steiff, but they confirmed for me that he was produced around the same time as the 1910 Steiff Spaniel and is a similar design, he is in fact made by Farnell. His mohair is patchy in places and his bare fabric is marked in parts. His white mohair has discoloured with age. He is five way jointed and is able to be moved into a variety of poses. He has the same shiny boot button eyes that they used on their early teddy bears. His nose and mouth stitching is original and he even has some claw stitching on his feet. He has a piece of wire poking out of his right foot (see pic 12) but it does not effect his movement. He has remains of a very old piece of string around his neck, most probably a lead once given to him by his young owner. He is entirely wood wool filled and measures 9 inches long from the tip of his nose to the base of his tail and 4 inches standing. He also has a non working squeaker in his tummy.Overall he is wonderful, he does have some age wear but for his one hundred years he is doing very well! He is so lovely.. If you have any questions I am always happy to answer them. He will be sent by recorded delivery.
