Antique Vtg Lovely Early Steiff Bear " Peter" 1908:
Peter is a lovely early Steiff bear. He no longer has his button but there can be no doubt as to which bear family he belongs to. He has retained a good covering of mohair with patchy spots dotted about him. He has his original boot button eyes that are a little loose to the touch but are not in danger of falling out. He has lost his nose and mouth stitching, I came ever so close to restitching his nose and mouth, but simply fell in love with his expression and did not want to change it. He has two claws remaining on his right paw and the remains of three on his left paw. He still has his four claws on his left foot but only traces of claws remaining on his right foot. He has his original felt pads. The tips of his hand pads have been recovered and he has some small underlay repairs on his right foot (see pic 11 +12). His wood wool filling has settled a little but he still its happily and poses nicely. The wood wool filling in his right leg has settled the most causing him to sit with a bit of a lean, but it is does not stop him from being able to sit up. He measures 12 inches long and is entirely wood wool filled.Overall Peter is a wonderful, charming bear. He does have age wear but for a little chap who is over 100 years old he is doing very well. He is full of character and has the most darling face.If you have any questions I am always happy to answer them. He will be sent by recorded delivery.
