Antique Or Vintage Cast Brass Bronze Marble Bust Lucius Caecilius Iucundus :
This cast brass (with applied bronze/verdigris effect) bust is of the Pompeiian banker Lucius Caecilius Iucundus. The head is attached to the marble pillar via a thick steel rod and two smaller ones encased in cement that fit into holes in the top of the pillar. It fits securely when upright but can be removed easily. The bust is in very good condition and this is an excellent cast. There is just one tiny spot at the back of the shoulder area that has a thin line of missing bronze/verdigris finish--I was only able to determine that this is not solid bronze by noticing that and a bit of exposed brass underneath the bust. I don't know where or when this was made. (I purchased it at an estate sale and it was said to date to the 1950s, but I can't verify that information because I haven't been able to find another example anywhere online.)As shown, the marble pillar has some scuffing and scratching and a bit of tape residue near the base. There is a nick to the marble on one side as shown. The bust with base weighs just under ten pounds and measures 15" tall.
