Highly collectible silver vinaigrette with stunning detailed 3 dimensional decoration which is more common in larger Nathaniel Mills masterpieces such as snuff boxes but is very unusual for his vinaigrette.
Definition of vinaigrette:
silver vinaigrette is a small receptacle to contain scented vinegar used by ladies to ward off faintness. The earliest-known examples in separate form dates from 1492. Such pieces were popular from the mid 18th century, They were made in innumerable forms and styles (such as circular, oval, polygonal, heart-shaped or shell-shaped, and in fantasy forms, such as a shoe, book, watch-case, purse, acorn...) in silver, gold or porcelain, with a pierced metal grille under the stopper or the securely hinged lid to cover a sponge saturated with a scented substance.
Fully sterling silver hallmarks on both lid,base and grill:
Birmingham 1834.
The grill has identical hallmark which confirm its originality.
Maker: N.M.Nathaniel Mills who was registered in Birmingham between 1826 & 1857 and is undoubtedly the most famous Victorian silversmith in making silver card case,Aid memoire, vinaigrette and snuff Box.
Nathaniel Mills masterpieces are highly collectible and would add value to any silver/vinaigrette collection.

Exquisite antique sterling silver and gilt [ Gold washed interior] vinaigrette with cast flower, leave and scroll decoration to the border of both lid and base whichis making a superb frame for a stunning central engine turned decoration.
The cast [ Raised and 3 dimensional decoration] isunbelievablydetailed as you can see in pictures.
The engine turned decoration is making different reflections from different angles which I have tried to show it in provided pictures.
The lid has a beautiful central engine turned decoration which is making an eye catching background for a central blank cartouche,so it can be personalised.
There is also a superbpierced decoration on its gold washed grill.
Thismuseum qualityvinaigrette still carries its original sponge.
The gilt [gold washedall over] has added more beauty to this masterpiece.
It was made from outstanding gaugeof sterling silver [37 grams] and is large.
It has atop quality as you would expect from Nathaniel Mills masterpieces and is insupreme condition after179 years with no Dents/Split/Hole/Repair/Soldering what so ever.

Hinges are innice order and both lid and grill close nicely and tightly.
Detailed decoration is insupreme condition with almost no signs of agingas you can see in pictures.
Gilt [Gold washed]on the insideis in superb original condition withalmost nosigns of aging buton the outside is showing some signs of aging as you can see in pictures.
