Estate Fresh Wwii Usaaf A-2 Flight Jacket From The 58th Fighter Squadron:
Grenadier Military Antiques Is Offering This Estate Fresh WWII USAAF A-2 Flight Jacket From The 58th Fighter Squadron. I purchased this jacket directly from the family of the late Second Lt. Nathan L. Woodward, 12th Air Force, 33rd Fighter Group, 58th Fighter Squadron "The Gorillas." Lt. Woodward had one confirmed kill on 27 January, 1944, while the 58th was operating in the MTO, before being transferred to China. The jacket is untouched, and as found. It is still somewhat supple, and pliable, and overall very solid. There are many scuffs, abrasions, stains and overall wear from period use. At the top of each sleeve, right at the shoulders, is a small approx. 1" tear from use. The jacket is complete with it's original, working "taylon" zipper, and retains the original waist band and cuffs which are still very elastic. The jacket features a leather name tag, which is very worn, a leather CBI patch and a leather 58th Fighter Squadron patch on the left breast. Both the CBI and 58th patch are somewhat loose, but still attached. As the 58th patch is loose, you can lift it up and see the somewhat worn remains of a hand painted, yellow P-40 Warhawk under the patch. The spec. tag is present, and shows a size of "36". The jacket is fully lined, and features the stenciled name of Lt. Woodward. Also included it the box for Lt. Woodward's DFC, which has his name on the back of the box. Unfortunately the family has no idea of where the medal itself has gone, and it is lost to time. His air cadet's and USAAF officer's cap badges are also included. As noted, this jacket is estate fresh, and has never been offered for sale to the collector's community before this listing. It is solid, untouched and shows heavy wear from honest period use. The overall condition is very good. All items are absolutely guaranteed 100% original, and are from the period stated.
