~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Up for sale is medal for Governor Isaac Shelby 🇺🇸, struck by the US Mint. The medal has a diameter of 2½” (6⅓ cm) and weighs 49/10 oz (139 grams). The box identifies this a US Mint No. 419.
Governor Isaac Shelby was second-in-command to his father at the Battle of Point Pleasant, during Lord Dunmore’s War in 1774. During the Revolutionary War he was a surveyor and gathered supplies for the Continental Army and later led expeditions over the Appalachian Mountains against British forces in North Carolina. Following the war,IsaacShelby relocated to Kentucky and became involved in Kentucky’s transition from a Virginia county to a separate state. He became Kentucky’s first governor in 1792. Following his gubernatorial term, he retired from public life but was called back to politics by the War of 1812. On October 5, 1813, he led forces in the Battle of the Thames near present-day Chatham, Ontario.
The obverse side of the medal features a rightward-facing bust of Governor Isaac Shelby. The reverse shows the Battle of the Thames in action and states Resolution of Congress April 4, 1818. At the bottom of both sides of the medal is Furst F which I believe is the mark of the designer of the medal.
This medal came loose as part of an estate. By visual inspection, it is in excellent condition. This medal comes in a sealed plastic pouch which has not been opened for many years. If you see any flaws in the pictures of this medal, they are probably on the pouch, not the coin. The coin and the pouch come in a white cardboard box.
