~ HMS Ganges Name Board~HMS GANGES was the shore training establishment for boy entrants into the Royal Navy from 1905 until 1976. She had taken on the previous duties from the wooden ship H.M.S. GANGES.The plate is made of stout oak with screwed in bronze letters. The edge of the letters are painted in red. The reverse of the board was painted in white, now cream.It would most likely have been fitted onto a tender or launch.~ Dimensions ~The boards width is 35.7 inches (91 cm), its depth is 1 inch (2.5 cm) and its height is 7.7 inches (19.7 cm).
The letters height are 4 inches (10 cm), their depth is 0.5 inches (1.3 cm) and their width is 3 inches (7.5 cm).
The name board weighs 5.9 kg.~ Condition ~The name board is in good used condition with minor paint loss on the letters and on the woodwork. Two screws and 7 screw nuts are missing.For further details and condition see pictures
