I hesitate to call this bell an \"antique,\" but I was trying to say \"vintage\" since it was from a naval ship from the 40s-50s. It is a exterior bulkhead (wall) of a ship. It rang for general alarms; fire, abandon ship, go to your \"battle stations.\" The electric box is 6 inch by 6 inch. It has a heavy housing attached to that, and then the actual bell. The only the bell is bronze, as you can see in the scratched off paint in the photograph. The whole unit extends 5 inches from the wall. It has the original haze-grey paint used by the US Navy for all of its ships. The overall weight is 6 pounds, 13 ounces. Most of the weight is the cast iron housing between the bell and the electric box. Although I can tell it was used since it has coats of paint, I can\'t see any opening in the electric box where it was wired. I guess it could be wired to work, I believe you would be better served if uses as a decorative or nostalgic piece. If it is not as described, or you just don\'t like it, you may return it for a refund.
