Janice Morins' carvings can be found in galleries and private
collections throughout North America. Her trademark is her ability to
infuse each work of art with intensity and character. Janice was born in
Merrit B.C. in 1952 of Salish/Cree parents. She moved with her family
to Vancouver as a teenager, w Janice was first introduced to Native art
when she joined a carving class with legendary First Nations master
carver, artist and motivational speaker Philip (Opie) Oppenheim. She was
a natural with her original designs and so impressed Philip Oppenheim
that he took her into apprenticeship. Over the course of three years
with Oppenheim, Janice became adept at carving both wood and jewelery,
demonstrating great promise as a professional artist. This path was
delayed for some 15 years, however, while she devoted time to raising
her son and daughter. Janice credits the return of art to her
life to the second major artistic influence in her life, husband Randy
Stiglitz, himself a renowned Coast Salish artist, whom she married in
1992. âeoeI gained valuable direction while attending the Langara
College of Fine Arts but found what inspires me most is the Native
