***** Rare Hollywood, Ca. Ed Gillmore Sterling Silver Mntd Saddle *****:
Fresh fromthe local estate of a 90 year old man from California that moved to Albuquerque, NM years ago. From the same estate that the Visalia bit & spurs came from. This a very rare & highly sought after floral carved Ed Gillmore saddle. The saddle is floral carved with a cheyenne roll. Made like the Gene Autry rodeo saddles. The leather is a russet brown color over most of the saddle. A little darker on the fenders from wear. The seat measures 15". It features 4 sterling silver conchos & a sterling silver horn cap. The tree is sound in it. No rips, tears, or repairs on the saddle. The sheep skin is mostly intacted, with only a few minor wear spots on it. It is marked in 4 different spots on the saddle. The saddle is solid 8 out of 10, with 10 being the best. You really won't find many saddles by this maker. Really a rare piece for your collection.
Ed Gillmore of North Hollywood, Ca. was a very close friend of Gene Autry's. Ed made all of the saddles for Gene Autry's Madison Square Garden rodeo held from 1940 to 1953. Ed was a popular saddle maker on Ventura blvd in Los Angeles from 1930 to the 1950's. Ed even made Roy Roger's first gun rig.
