Rare Antique Pre-1934 Northwest Coast Haida Totem False Mask Carving :
polachee store This is a rare totem/mask fresh out of the estate of Arthur & Darlene Crouch of Southern Oregon. They had an extensive collection of Native American art & artifacts. There is an old crack/break that extents the length from top to bottom that has been poorly repaired a long time ago but is in stable condition. Could be easily restored if desired. There is also other minor cracks that stem from this break, they are also stable (pictured). And there is a small piece missing at top of head where crack begins. It's backside is roughly hollowed out with an adze but the front is superbly carved & finished. The beak is applied, I'm not sure if any other extruding parts are, but it appears they're carved from one solid piece of cedar. I believe the black finish is stain, it is not paint. This is a very old piece & I don't believe it was made for tourists. Measures : 18" tall by 12" wide 5" front to back not counting the 3" beak. Weight 7 lbs 9 ozs. AACA member & all AACA rules & conditions apply. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.
