“Masuyama” lady with fan in coolie cart
What a wonderful and beautiful toy EPL 773
is! Made only from 1927 to 1938, this
impressive toy shows an oriental lady in a rickshaw pulled by a coolie. She fans herself as the umbrella turns
overhead. The legs of the coolie were
designed to move forward in a realistic motion as if walking. The umbrellas are removable and easy to lose,
so beware of reproduced ones. The
umbrella on this mint toy is 100% original and correct.

wearing blue lithographed kimono, obi, and holding a movable fan in her hands,
a movable umbrella above her head. The rickshaw is pulled by a man with green
jacket imprinted with EPL (Ernst Paul Lehmann) logo, pink pants, slippers, and
yellow slouch hat. When coil-spring wound, the wheels turn, he walks briskly along,
the lady's umbrella twirls and she fans herself. Both their heads nod with the
movement. Marked Lehmann. Excellent condition, The mechanism functions, however
the axel has come apart please look at the pictures to make a judgment of what

toys comes to my mailbox, I can hardly wait to check out what tricks they could
perform. The James Julia November 20 catalog didn’t disappoint me. Those
offered were late 19th to early 20th century. Among them was a Lehman Masuyama
wind-up with a coolie pushing a rickshaw with an Oriental woman. When wound,
