Hi, thank you for having a look at my items. If you have been watching my sales over the past couple weeks you will know I have been saleing a Large and Important Asian Art Estate collection. Up for sale this week is an Amazing Array or Very Fine and Rarely Seen Chinese Scholar’s Objects, Jades, and Fine Stone Carvings, I believe one of my Finest sales to date. Description

Up for sale is a Very Fine and Rare Chinese Carved Jade Elephant Figure. The Figure is very finely carved throughout with a unique stylized design. The Figure was documented in the collection as being a Very Rare and Important 18th century Chinese Qianlong Imperial Carved example. I believe there is a good chance this is in fact what the figure is, however I will let you ultimately decide its age for yourself and offer accordingly. The collector appeared to know exactly what he was talking about and was a noted connoisseur of Chinese Arts. The collector ran a high end Asian Arts Shop for many years, and he was known for specializing in Imperial Jades, known as the Imperial Jade Shop of Toronto which closed in the year 1976. When the shop closed many of the pieces were send to Sotheby’s for sale. But the collector saved some of his most prized and favourite pieces, including this elephant figure and some of the other examples also listed. The Elephant figure has a fine softness or dullness to the jade which should be found on a piece of this age from years of handling and being exposed to the elements. This takes a particularly long time to occur on jade examples being one of the hardest substances on earth. If you take some time to research how this figure is carved as well you will see the stylized design is very similar if not identical to many important Qianlong examples that have been sold. This includes a pair of important imperial examples that sold at Woolley & Wallis sales for an astonishing 1.2 million GPBs. So I think it is Well Worth researching this example, and I am sure the opportunity to purchase such a piece does not arise very often, mostly with s. From what I have read such examples were specifically carved for the Imperial Palace, and were also known to adorn either side of the Emperors Throne. The Figure is carved if a beautiful celadon jade hu. The Figure also has some light russet skin left to the top of the elephant which is again something that was commonly done in the Qianlong era. The Figure does in fact pass the jade scratch test, and is Fully Guaranteed to be an Authentic Jade example. The figure has a natural white inclusion in the stone to the top back, and a very tiny chip to the end of the trunk, which could be buffed out if one desired. The Figure is overall in very fine original condition with no other chips, cracks, or repairs. The Figure displays beautifully measuring 6 inches long, by 2 1/2 inches wide, and stands 3 7/8 inches tall. A Truly Fine Museum Quality example.
