Offered for sale is a vintage railroad locomotive bell. This belongs to a friend, who does not know the history of the bell. The bar which the clapped is attached to is marked on one side, "Viloco, Chicago". The other side of the bar is marked, "Double Action BR-115". The cradle is cast iron marked, "Howard".Theloop on the cradle is marked, "PA, PE".The bell appears to be solid brass. A magnet will not stick to it, and a very fine scratch reveals bright yellow underneath. The clapper is cast iron. The finial on top of the cradle appears to be brass also.
- Finial 2 1/2" in diameter
The condition is weathered. It has been displayed outside for many years. The cradle appears to have been repainted black at some point. The bell rings loud and true. There are stains on the bell, and the clapper shows rust, as does the cradle. The cradle motion is stiff. There are dings on the inside of the bell. Please enlarge my pictures, and mouse over them to inspect the bell closer.
We are not trying to make a profit on the shipping. I have calculated a UPS shipping to either the east or the west coast of $175.00. The bell is now located in North Central Arkansas, near the Missouri boarder. If you live in the central US, the shipping will be less. At the time of shipping the actual shipping charges to your address will be calculated. If a refund is due, it will be credited at the time of shipping.
It may be possible to arrange for local pick-up, please inquire prior to offerding.
