THIS IS AN EXTRAORDINARY TABLE OF THE FINEST DESIGN. EXTREMELY HEAVY.. Circa 1940s, French style. Very elaborate base featuring an abundace of scrollwork with accents of scrolled acanthus eaves. Large rosettes provide further decoration. Grand appearance with the iron being of substantial thickness. It has a beautiful, weathered and textural finish of brown and ivory with some subtle gilded accents underneath. THERE ARE AREAS OF RUST ESPECIALLY AT THE FEET. The top is as beautiful as the base. It is a large piece of honed, travertine marble of ivory color with muted and subtle veining. It is thick and has an elegant, rounded edge. The marble is fixed to.and supported by a piece of wood which rests on the base of the table. The top is removable. The table is not marked but is of extremely fine quality. It is in very good, antique condition with some expected evidence of age and use. Their are areas of rust on the base, particularly at the feet. The travertine is very nice with a few, VERY minor surface scratches. I suspect that the top has been protected with a glass covering. Nothing severe or distracting.
