Uncommon pre-Civil War envelope addressed to Cadet William G. Waller at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, from his hometown of Lynchburg, Va.
Waller, the grandson of President John Tyler, entered West Point in 1860, one of 10 At-Large appointees, but dropped out with other Southern cadets as hostilities approached. He joined the Confederate Army as a lieutenant and was assignedto the Augusta Arsenal in Georgiaas an ordnance officer.
