Victorian 1898 Sterling Silver Scottish Agate Pebble Kilt Pin Brooch For Sale
This is a beautiful Victorian dated 1898 sterling silver and Scottish agate kilt pin or large brooch.I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found.
The Scottish gemstones chosen for this piece are all lovely classic Scottish stones. There is a lovely section of grey banded agate from Montrose on the east coast of Scotland, orange and purple Campsie Fells jaspers and green Isle of Rum bloodstone.
The brooch has no hallmarks ( does have sterling stamp and makers J.C.&S ) which is fairly normal for brooches of this period, but has been fully tested and is sterling silver. The pin has a registration number on the back which is 328082 and dates the piece to 1898. The length is 6.0 cm ( Just under two and a half inches ) and the pin and C clasp are in good working condition and original.
