Vintage Photographs-(4)1946 Maibnliner Lake Michigan Plane Crash, Cheyenne, Wy For Sale
Vintage Photographs-(4)1946 Maibnliner Lake Michigan Plane Crash, Cheyenne, WY Douglas DC-4, United Airlines, 2 FatalitiesThese four vintage photographs (one print has been duplicated) document the crash of a Douglas DC-4, the Mainliner Lake Michigan, near Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1946. Aviation records say that there were two fatalities on this flight from San Fransisco to Cheyenne. The Aviation Safety Network records state: "At least two attempts to land had failed as the aircraft
approached too high in minimum ceiling conditions. The pilot tried to maneuver
the aircraft to another runway at a low altitude. The wing struck the ground and
the DC-4 skidded for 700 feet. The aircraft was named "Mainliner Lake
Michigan". The four photos measure approx. 3 3/4" by 3 3/4" and are bordered. On the back of one is written, "Plane down at 40A north of Airport below dam". The photos the plane down on the snowy ground in two, the Standard Oil, United Airlines tank can be seen. There are two prints of the same photograph in the set; I have shown both in the pictures. Photos are in good condition, have a glossy finish; with some minor wear and slight wrinkling. If you purchase from me I want you to be satisfied, so feel free to email me for more information.
