On offer from
our personal collection is this graceful
hand-woven basket with footed base from the Ifugao
peoples of the Philippines. Used for storing rice,
such baskets, known as 'ulbong', are a single-rod
coiled construction of bamboo. It's believed their
curvaceous shape has been inspired by ceramic
vessels of China. Quite heavy & durable, the
basket is beautiful in form & function. Its
slightly uneven shape is a testament to its
hand-crafted quality. A marvelous weave with
superb workmanship & detail.
Overall condition: In good vintage
condition, we believe the basket dates from the
1960s or earlier. Beautiful accent piece.
