**rare** Authentic M 1860 Us Naval Cutlass [ames Mfg./chicopee/mass] 1861 For Sale
M 1860 Naval Cutlass. Naval cutlass that shows actualuse. Grip isvery good and as with most of these has the wire intentionally removed. It was usually taken off by sailors as the wire would break /corrode in the salt air. Brass guard and cup have a nice dark patina. Cup has the normal bumps and bruises normally seen on acutlass that has seen service.
Maker-mark illegible [Ames Mfg./Chicopee/Mass, partially worn off]. Inspector's mark "Anchor/___ [illegible]/1861". Blade exhibits patches of light pitting and condensation residue. Ding-free. Washer missing. Brass basket hilt assembly tight and symmetrical; exhibits medium coppery patina with various minor dings. Inner cross guard rack stamp "21M/88". Black leather scabbard. Leather is structurally solid how ever displays obvious signs of age and weathering, and cracking.
