#5256 Here is a 1 1/8 yard piece of vintage Japanese yukata cotton. This piece has a pattern of mirrored images of abstract geometric butterflies on a dark blue background. The fabric is 14 1/2 inches wide, both selvages present. This length is the length of one mirrored image repeat. Japanese traditional textiles, whether silk or cotton, are woven this width because long strips of this width are used to make kimono and yukata. The dye patterns are produced using mulberry paper stencils to apply the dye. The fabrics are dyed, not printed, so the dye goes through the fabric to produce the same pattern on what would be the back. The fabric is reversible. This piece is unused, in excellent, crisp condition. Machine woven.
