This oversize and heavyweight hardbound book documents the 1893 Chicago World\'s FairExpositionfrom the planning stages in 1890 to it\'s construction, operation, and closing in late 1893. This book starts with publication volume I, No. 1 (photo #5) in the summer of 1990 and ends with volume V, No. 30 (photo #12) Dec. of 1893. I believe this must have been a subscription periodical sold over this time period, and after the world\'s fair was over with, all issues were combined into one large hardcover bound book and offered for sale complete. As a long time addict of all things World\'s Fairs (starting with 1893 & 1904), I have recently been in recovery and have sold off my large collection with the exception for this book - have saved it for last. I have owned it for almost 15 years, and think it\'s time for someone else to enjoy it. There is no way I can do a comprehensive overview of the contents, and the limitation of 12 photos doesn\'t help. There is so much information and images related to the 1893 Fair that somebody really should compile, index, digitally scan and save it as a file for research purposes.Also there are many world leaders and business men and women, etc. that contribute to and/or are profiled in this volume. limits these listings to 12 photos so please contact me for more if needed, will be happy to supply. You will find other later hardbound publications of the fair from Jewell Halligan which are many less pages and mostly photo images of the fair, this is the only one of these I have ever ran across that is the complete intact bound volume and in this condition.
The condition of this book: It\'s still amazingly solid and tightly bound, no missing pages, and flat and square. There are just a few pages with tears and a very few small dog-ear type creases, and no pen or pencil markings at all anywhere cover to cover.The printed paper pages are a glossy paper stock, still pretty white not yellowed, very flexible not brittle, and in about as good of condition as 124 years ago.There is some wear to the outside surface and edge wear on the two boards. There is a little bit of separation at the top of the of the front hinge on the outside (photo #1), but still solidly attached on the inside of this same hinge. The inside surface of the boards and their facing pages are of a luxurious burgundy color \"feather-swirl\" pattern litho printed paper stock.
If you are a fan of the 1893 World\'s fair and/or are doing research on this fair or this time period in general, then you will not be disappointed! I will have it tightly \"stretch\" wrapped in microfoam film to prevent shifting, then tightly wrapped again in many more layers of foam and other added protection packed into a strong corrugate box for shipment to arrive to you in this same condition.See all photos supplied, as they are the best part of this item\'s description!
