You are offerding on a RAREpiece of Middle Eastern history. Thisclay vessel is an incredible representation of the cultural, artistic, ananthropological development of ancient Islamic Persia, now modern Iran.

This clay pot shows theperfection that early Persia (Iran) attained in glaze development: making uppaste mixtures of soda, quartz powder and coloring oxide to brush or paint ontoa shaped vessel/jug. Our consignor purchased this gorgeous piece of history ina Bazaar in Western Iran in 1967. We arenot professional appraisers but our online research about glazing and ceramicsdevelopment in that area found other similar earthenware jars that dated it possiblyas early as the 800 (9th c) AD to 1200 AD (13th c).

The greenish blue tint of theglaze may be due to added iron from clay or sand in that area of the MiddleEast. The remaining portions of the glaze are most apparent at the opening ofthe vessel and along the interior walls of the vessel.

This vessel has not, and willnot, be cleaned in any way. It will arrive in the exact condition as shown inthe sale pictures.
