125 Carat Lot Of Rare 1930's Collection Of Koroit Boulder Opal

Amazing Koroit Boulder Opal from the 1930's!!!

We just purchased over 600 lbs of Australian Queensland Koroit boulder opal. This opal was mined in the early 1930's and has been in the gentleman's collection until his passing. The opal was put on the market for sale and is rumored to be from the original Koroit opal fields find, from one of the initial miners who settled in several exclusive mining camps that were around from 1925 until the second world war.

Koroit boulder opal is formed in thin veins in ironstone and is often called opal in matrix because of this. Australia produces around 97% of the opal in the world and yet boulder opal is only 2% of the opal produced.

Some of the opal has mostly ironstone matrix and some has mostly opal and very little matrix as you can see in the pictures. We even have some pieces that are nothing but the ironstone matrix which makes both remarkable cabochons and is also great for tumbling. You are offerding on a random scoop that is a minimum of 125 carats of this amazing 1930's material!

*Please Note: Since this is a complete mine run we have large sizes up to and even over a pound for a single piece as well as smaller sizes down to around 10 carats. It is a random scoop you will receive, so it may include a larger piece or many smaller ones in your order.
