The clasp slides apart when you press down on the button, and it latches firmly and securely into place when closed. It measures just under 7.5 inches long, but that includes both parts of the clasp so when it is worn and the clasp pieces are slid together, it will be slightly smaller. It measures 1/2 inch wide.
