Basilae Ex Offici na Valderiana, Anno M. D. XLI. (Johann Walder, Basel, 1541)
Leather covered boards, 4 raised spine bands, gilt titling and designs on the spine, 8.5” x 12.5” (22cm x 31cm). Unpaginated, approximately 400 pages. Illustrated with a wonderfully intricate engraved title-page, some engraved title letters, and a Printer’s device at the end.
Complete from title page through the last page with the intricately engraved Printer’s device. Any prelims that were present before the title page are lacking. The rear free-endpaper is present.
The covers are worn, rubbed, scraped and scratched, with fraying at the spine ends and corners, and worn through at the corners and much of the edges. Internally, lacking blank prelims, front and rear hinges split but holding, shorelining to the upper front corner area of some of the inner pages, shorelining to the front margin of the early pages, a bit of worming - thin 1” lines - here and there, there are some sections of text that have been inked out with handwritten replacement text handwritten in the margin, there are a few margin notes and marks, previous owner's names appear to have been roughly erased from the title page. Overall a solid, nice copy, with worn covers that remain attractive in a Harry Potter Hogwarts’ Library sort of way.
The only copies I could find online ranged in price from $750 to $2,000.
