In 1969 Eastern Airlines inaugurated service to Kingston, Jamaica. This lot is comprised of an envelope that was flown on the first flight by Eastern from Jamaica to Philadelphia. The envelope was postmarked in Kingston on December 13, 1969, and it was flown on the inaugural Eastern flight to Philadelphia, and it was properly backstamped upon arrival at Philadelphia. The postmark and backstamp are fully legible. The Jamaican Postal Service participated in the events surrounding this inaugural flight by applying special rubber-stamped designs ONLY to those envelopes ACTUALLY FLOWN on the first flight. The design notes the inaugural flight by Eastern, and was applied in a purple color. The envelope is listed in the American Air Mail Catalogue as F33-18b. The envelope is in very good condition. The cover from Kingston is EXCEEDINGLY RARE, with ONLY 17 covers flown to Philadelphia. That one cover has an AAMC value of USD$165!!
