Selling here is the first edition of Peter Rae\'s \'The History of the Late Rebellion...\', printed in Dumfries , Scotland, 1718. A scarce work on the first Jacobite rising in 1715.

4to, bound in later calf, spine gilt ruled and lettered direct, dark red morocco gilt title label and foot of spine gilt lettered \'Drumfries\' (sic).

The book measures 16cm by 19.5cm.

This copy lacks the title page, which is provided in manuscript in a 19th C hand, our collation: xiv,388,[8]pp, with a subscriber\'s list and a full page plan of the Order of Battle on p.363.

Condition: The binding is holding firmly though the hinges are starting at ends, rubbed and scuffed to surface, chipped to extremites and abraded to corners.Contents are holding firmly and in good condition overall, rather toned / browned throughout, some staining to upper foreedge to initial 14 or so leaves, further brownish stain to upper quarters between about pp190-210 and again after about pp320, some lighter and more widespread water staining toward edges at points throughout, tear from lower outer corner of penultimate leaf without loss to text, occasional early ink marginalia / annotation and related splats or smudges at points. Period plain endpapers, upper FE lacking, various annotations to upper pastedown.

A good reference copy, for sale with all faults / as described and WITH .
