1770 Lg Antique German Porcelain Kpm Dresden Ginger Jar Urn Vase Eagle Figure:
1770 Porcelain KPM Lidded Jar Eagle Finial Gorgeous! c1770 Antique hand painted and gilded late 18th Century Royal Berlin Porcelain Factory very large lidded urn jar in excellent condition.
The Koniglich Porcelan Manefaktur (KPM) was created by Frederick the Great when he bought Johann Ernst Gotzkowsky's factory in 1763.
This jar/urn is one of the largest pieces to come on the market and is ovoid in shape with an eagle clutching a branch perched on top. The body has two gilded laurel wreathed cartouche scenes with floral motifs. The rest of the striated body is decorated with gilt and soft gilded borders.
The base has the early style blue painted Imperial sceptre, and the inside of the lid has an impressed 1! If I'm not mistaken, the impressed numbers usually correlate to the number produced in the lot, if so this piece is even more valuable, if it's truly the first mold! As I said the condition is excellent with no chips, or repairs. There is wear to the gilding, but the piece is from 1770, so I would expect some age wear. Questions welcome and gladly answered.
